April Changes

Happy April!

Spring is here- and it is actually starting to feel like it!!!! I don't know why but even though we were in a new area this year, the winter still seemed to drag a bit!

Big changes happening as we speak- Oh Simple Baby will be closed for the first weekend of April (completely shut down as I will be doing work to the site.) My email addresses sales at ohsimplebaby.com will be down as well for a bit.

December Store Closure (Moving!!!)

Dear Customers,

Oh Simple Baby will be making the big move to Peterborough, On this weekend.

Please note that our store will be closed from Dec 1st to Dec 5th.

Orders can still be placed online, but will not be shipped until after the 5th.

One exception are the Naturepedic crib mattresses (or other Naturepedic items,) as they are shipped directly from the manufacturer, orders can be placed and will be dealt with in that time period as well.

Emails will be hopefully be able to checked daily, so if there any important issues to be dealt with, or questions that need to be answered, please email and I will do my best to get back to you asap.

We're Moving!!!!! Peterborough, Ontario will be our new home

November 28th is the day! Oh Simple Baby will be moving our office from the Haliburton area to Peterborough, Ontario permanently. Many exciting events to come, and a brand new website in partnership with ohsimplebaby.com, PeterboroughMoms.com will be the new addition to the Oh Simple Baby family.

More info to come, but look out for free pick up for those residents in Peterborough as well as a smaller fee for local delivery.

Wednesday, September 17th

I thought I should add an image of the new line of cribs that we are carrying, handmade by members of the Amish community of Ohio. The Simple Affordable line of cribs are a fantastic item, made of sustainably harvested hardwood, using non-toxic tung oil to finish, and it is of course, heirloom quality and will last for generations. This is so refreshing to see, since almost everything you buy today is made of particle board, and is completely dump-ready after a short use! As I mentioned these cribs are finished in Tung Oil, which is a nut from the tung tree. I do ask that parents that have any concerns regarding nut allergies, consider an unfinished crib, as there has been (very few) reported reactions to tung oil by those with severe nut allergies. This product is a good partner to the Naturepedic All-Natural Organic Crib Mattresses that we have always had. I also wanted to mention a little bit more about the Bamboobino products we are now carrying! As I had mentioned in a previous post, we will be carrying nursing pads, BUT just not yet, they are coming in the near future, but will not be in stock for at least a month. For now we are thrilled to have a bassinet sized sheet, regular sized crib sheet (both in Bamboo & Organic Cotton,) and re-usable bamboo wash cloths (Bamboo/Cot/Poly.) These should all arrive within a couple of weeks, and will be up on the site within a few days.

Lots of News!

First, I wanted to thank all of my customers for your support and nominations with the SavvyMom Mom Entrepreneur of the Year Award this year. The contest is now closed, and the results should be sometime in October. It was a great experience to be a part of such an amazing group of women in Canada!

I also wanted to announce some new products. We are waiting on a new order from Camden Rose who makes really amazing wooden toys and other products, such as bowls and spoons. Very exciting. Also we will be stocking Bamboo nursing pads for Mom's made my Bamboobino.. More exciting products are on their way, but we will save that for a surprise!

A few notes...

As mid-summer arrives, so do The Safe Sippy! We have received word that our order will ship out between August 4-8 from the Toronto warehouse. Kid Basix is confident that they will not have any issues keeping up with demand from now on, which is great news as well.


In just a couple of weeks time we will also have our RiNGLEY teethers available in knotted or straight.

As well as SMQ Organics Crib Sheets & receiving blankets available in light cream and handmade in Toronto.

Naturepedic Organic Cotton Crib Mattresses

A crib mattress is important. Your baby spends a huge chunk of its life on it, and because of this, I believe that this is one of the most important items to research, research, research, and make and educated decision when you purchase.

We have chosen to carry the Naturepedic brand for a variety of reasons. They are made of 100% Organic Cotton, unlike some other wool mattresses which can be an allergen. They have a waterproof outer layer which we love. They work with Healthy Child, Healthy World, (non-profit organization, is dedicated to educating the public regarding environmental toxins that can affect children’s health.) And they are dedicated only to organic mattresses, it is not a product line that they have recently added, it is the only thing they do... and they are great at it!

The problem with regular old crib mattresses is the polyurethane foam, vinyl (PVC), phthalates, chemical fire retardants, and other industrial chemicals. Ongoing studies are showing that many of the chemicals used in these mattresses are toxic.

One might argue that if they were that bad, they would be illegal, but much like the recent Bisphenol-A issues that have come to light, these too will most likely eventually be ban.

Update-July 2008

I have decided to make a move back to blogspot so that I can highlight some of the products we sell, and help parents to learn more!

There are many things I wanted to mention for July.

First, I wanted to give an update regarding the RinGLEY Organic Teethers, as well as the Safe Sippy, sippy cups. Both of these items have been back ordered but are due early August. Pre-orders are available on both. I only ask that you please place 2 separate orders if order other items and would like them sooner, or specify in the comment section that you would like to wait for all of the items before we ship.

I also wanted to mention that we have joined forces with MyRegistry.com and now it is as simple as can be to register for your baby shower! Not only is it a great idea for a shower, but also for more common events like Christmas, etc. You can choose products from any store and just add them to your registry. Now, onto some other great news, we are in the running for the SavvyMom Entrepreneur of the Year Award this year!
